Purple Loosestrife Biocontrol – Oneida County Aquatic Invasive Species Program

Purple Loosestrife Biocontrol – 2016.

Bio Control Program: The AIS Team released hungry purple loosestrife eating beetles in a large purple loosestrife infestation site on Planting Ground Lake, Three Lakes, WI.   Thank you to our volunteers, Mr. & Mrs. Urbonya, and partner, UWSP Treehaven, for raising thousands of the beetles for our bio control program.

Mechanical Control: The AIS teams uses two methods of mechanical control. 1) dig small, young plants, especially in looses sandy or gravely soil as well as in shallow water 2) clip flowers and stems during active growth. Plants are immediately bagged for disposal.
