Aquatic Forget-Me-Not  (Myosotis scorpioides)

Identification: Aquatic forget-me-not is a perennial plant that is 4-12 inches tall. It has alternate leaves that are oblong to lance-shaped. Flowers are blue with a yellow center and have 5 petals. They bloom from May to September.

Ecology and Natural History: Aquatic forget-me-not is native to Europe and Asia. It was intentionally introduced as an ornamental plant and escaped. It grows in wet areas along shores and stream banks.

Impacts of Introduction: It can grow in large monocultures and out-competes native wetland plants. It also contains an alkaloid that is toxic to mammals. It can cause weight loss, poor body condition, and liver disease.
